How delays work at TUS
A ground stop holds flights bound for TUS at their origin airports. A ground delay program spaces arrivals out so the airport is not overloaded. Departure and arrival delay messages describe the average wait the FAA expects. None of these tell you whether your own flight is late, so always check your airline as well.
Local tips
- Hotel shuttle hours are limited. La Quinta's runs from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Baymont's from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. For a dawn flight, book the hotel with the shuttle hours that match your departure, or use a rideshare.
- Tucson does not observe daylight saving time, so flight times can look different from the rest of the country in the winter. Check the time on your boarding pass.
- Sun Tran Route 25 is fare-free, so you can get to downtown without paying a bus fare.
- The terminal is open 24 hours, but the checkpoints are closed overnight. Travelers who stay the night must stay in the public landside area until checkpoints open.
- Some nearby hotels offer free airport shuttles. Confirm the shuttle hours and pick-up point with each hotel before you book.
