The airport's official name is now Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. The Port of Oakland adopted the name in July 2025 after an earlier proposed name was challenged by San Francisco, and a settlement announced in April 2026 lets the Port keep the current name and the IATA code OAK. Older websites and signs may still say Oakland International Airport.
OAK has two terminals joined by a covered walkway, and the BART rail station is across the road from the terminals. The airport lists its own website as iflyoak.com.
Terminal 1 was built in 1962 and has been getting piecemeal upgrades, including a new check-in lobby completed in May 2025 and a multi-phase restroom renovation that the airport said in 2026 would continue into spring 2027. A larger terminal modernization project has been proposed but is not under construction.
Main airlines: Southwest Airlines has its own terminal (Terminal 2). Terminal 1 handles all other airlines, including Alaska, Allegiant, Delta, Hawaiian, Sun Country, Advanced Air and international carriers such as Volaris and Viva Aerobus.

Terminals
Terminal 1
Serves all airlines except Southwest, per the airport's FAQ. Check-in counters listed by the airport in 2025 include Alaska, Allegiant, Delta, Hawaiian, Sun Country, Advanced Air, Volaris and Viva Aerobus. It is the closer terminal to the Daily, Hourly and Premier parking entrances. After security, the Escape Lounge is near Gate 9, Little Main St. (a local shop with snacks, travel items and magazines) is near Gate 5, and Hudson's Duty Free and Lake Merritt Essentials are near Gate 1.
Terminal 2
Southwest only. Southwest check-in can only be completed in Terminal 2. CLEAR eGates and TSA PreCheck enrollment are located here. Per a BART guide to shopping at OAK, a gourmet food shop is at Gate 24 after security.
Moving between terminals
The two terminals are connected by a covered walkway, both before and after security, according to the airport. All gates can be reached from the TSA checkpoint in either terminal, so you can enter at whichever is closer and walk to your gate on the other side of security.
The BART station is across the street from the terminals, just opposite Terminal 1 baggage claim and a short walk from Terminal 2. A shuttle train makes the 8-minute ride to Coliseum station, where you transfer to BART trains to downtown Oakland, downtown San Francisco and other destinations. The airport lists departures about every 6 minutes for most of the day, and every 20 minutes late in the evening until midnight. Pay with a contactless bank card, Clipper card or phone wallet.
Bus
AC Transit Line 73 and Line 805
Line 73 runs between the airport and Coliseum/OAK BART about every 15 minutes between 4:56 a.m. and 12:06 a.m. Line 805 is the late-night service, hourly between 12:35 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., connecting the airport with Coliseum BART and downtown Oakland.
Rideshare
Lyft, Uber and Wingz
Rideshare pick-up is on the third curb at sections 3C2 to 3C9.
Taxi and shuttle
Taxis, limos and shuttles
The airport lists contracted taxi, limousine and shuttle companies on its website. Fares are by meter for taxis.
Rental car
Rental car shuttle
The airport says a rental car shuttle leaves the terminals at least every seven minutes during peak travel times, from 4 a.m. through 1 p.m., and runs on call after airline operating hours.
Search for the airport by its code, OAK, if you are booking: many sites still use the older name, and the code has not changed.
Southwest passengers must check in at Terminal 2. Everyone else uses Terminal 1.
If you take BART, the airport connector is a separate shuttle train to Coliseum; you tap in there, not at the airport station.
Restroom renovation work is under way in both terminals into 2027, so expect some temporary closures.
